Nigel Rooms, Director of Ministry and Mission in the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham has a new book out this week published by SPCK.
The Faith of the English: Integrating Christ and Culture asks; What does it mean to be an English Christian? What happens when the principles of inculturation are applied to English culture?
The book, as a mixture of missiology, practical theology and adult education theory (with some Robin Hood thrown in for good measure), encourages people to think more deeply about the relationship between faith and culture, and to see how the good news can most effectively be brought to the English. The book also shows how a short six-week course was developed for any Christian (they don’t necessarily need to go to church – they could be among those 70% “census” Christians) to engage with these questions and presents the initial results of running the course in different locations. A final chapter engages with questions of doing mission in England as if culture mattered.
A full copy of the Englishness course is downloadable from the SPCK website and it and the details of the book are available at http://www.spckpublishing.co.uk/shop/the-faith-of-the-english/
