Diamond Jubilee Update

Tomorrow we will be able to release the official prayers and the service resources for the Diamond Jubilee.

Check out the Church of England website from 11.00.

There is one key prayer from St Paul's from the service that is ideal for all churches to use.

This has been adapted into a prayer for primary age children and a prayer for Secondary age children.

They can be sent to your CofE schools in your diocese with the schools resources from HOPE and the Big Jubilee Thank You Letter for all the children to add their own thank you's as well!

ROMBS Conference

A message from Steve Hollinghurst:

ROMBS is a conference aimed at people already working with those in New Spiritualities from Pagan and New Age traditions rather than those exploring this area from scratch, though we are open to those who are seriously looking at starting involvement in this area. This is the second conference we have run in this area. The last conference was attended by 95 people from around Britain and Europe involved in a variety of ministries in this field and who came from all spectrums of the church.This conference provides a safe place to ask hard questions and learn from others who have experience in this area. The conference has  structured input as well as some open space for people to explore issues important to them. In addition there is a market place where different people can show what they are doing in their ministry. We are continually hearing of people working in this area, many often feeling on their own. It may not be an area you are involved in but you may know of others who are working in this area who might value this conference. Please do pass the details on to those you think appropriate rather than advertise it widely as this is geared primarily for those working in this area rather than the general Christian public.

Hundreds of clergy and laity have now attended the popular four-day residential course for clergy, which Robin Gamble and his team have run in recent years. For many years now a DAY course has been offered for clergy to come with some of their church people to share key insights from the course and begin to apply them in their own situation. Sheffield Centre Research Bulletin

They have become increasingly aware of the problems encountered by fresh expressions of church when the founder moves on. So for this bulletin they are focusing on both the associated issues and a number of different approaches which hope to counter these. If we are to see fresh expressions of church develop into maturity, issues of leadership succession need to be addressed. In this bulletin they delve deeper into some of these issues and suggest a number of ways forward.

Churches Together in Barking Riverside New Housing Development

 We are seeking a Pioneer Minister ordained or lay who has proven experience of the following:-

• Thinking outside the box - serving people outside church;
• Incarnational – listening to people and entering their culture;
• Educational – making discipleship a priority;
• Ecclesial – forming new ways of being church;
• Ecumenical – able to work collaboratively with other denominations;
• A ministry to All-Ages – experience of working with children and youth an asset.

You will be working with our mission partners from the Salvation Army and Methodist Church.

Phase 1 of the Barking Riverside building project is well underway and the new Church of England School opened in September 2011 and the new residents  are now moving on to the estate. You will be part of the Barking Team of St Margaret’s, St Patrick’s and Christ Church. The Team Vicar of Christ Church will be your line manager.

A house will be provided rent free, 3 years of initial funding is secured, and the salary is from £21,600 to 23,390 + expenses, depending on the experience and training of the applicant.

A skills based course which also provides the basic counselling theory necessary to understand what constitutes good practice in listening in pastoral care. The aim of the course is to improve your performance as a listener.  Led by Michael Grandey who is an ordained priest in the Church of England, having previously been a medical doctor. He is particularly interested in pastoral care and healing, and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Pastoral Counselling.

Church Growth Research Project

The Church of England invites interested parties to tender for an exciting research programme investigating factors relating to spiritual and in particular numerical church growth within the Church of England. This 18 month programme will involve:

• Preparation of the church’s attendance and other data and analysis of these existing data sets to test hypotheses around factors relating to church growth.
• In depth profiling of a sample of growing churches (and a randomly selected control group).
• A study of factors relating to growth at cathedrals, church planting and the impact of amalgamation of benefices and the use of different patterns of deployment of ministers.

Consortium bids from researchers (including those with significant expertise in quantitative methods), church growth experts and those familiar with Church of England structures are particularly encouraged. It is possible to bid for a particular strand or strands of the research programme as well as to undertake the programme as a whole. Any team submitting a proposal to undertake the whole research programme will need to take a mixed method approach, including statistical analysis and qualitative fieldwork.

“Taking your Church on the Journey Towards Justice”

I am pleased to inform you that International Justice Mission (IJM) UK, in conjunction with Hugh Palmer of All Souls, Langham Place and Paul Perkins of St Mark’s Battersea Rise, will be hosting a significant opportunity for church leaders on Friday 20^th January 2012 entitled Taking Your Church on the Journey Towards Justice, to which you are warmly invited. 

Many of us recognise the need to respond to God’s heart for justice but it can be difficult knowing how to act upon this in our local and global communities.  As such, the vision for the day is to help equip Church Leaders to better understand how a Biblical concern for justice impacts the Church and the way local churches can engage with the subject of justice to bring transformation.

The day itself is due to be held at St Mark’s Battersea Rise, London SW11 1EJ and will run from 10am to 3.15pm, with lunch included.  Space is available on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis and we have 10 spaces remaining for this niche gathering, and we would love to have you attend.

College Lectures at St John's Nottingham- Spring 2012

College Lectures happen at 12.05 every Wednesday during teaching term, and are part of the learning programme for all students. This term we have some exciting visitors!  Do look out for further updates.

The events are open to local people (or not so local if you are willing to travel!).

Cost: £6 to cover administration. Lunch is extra and must be pre-booked.
